Whilst dreaming about things we’d like to add to the bucket list or do more of, my partner and I ended up in a bit of debate about this one.
I started reminiscing about the most amazing sunrise I’ve ever experienced and shared that I’d like to see more.
It was whilst driving across Japan around 5am, one summer.
I was the passenger and my ski instructor colleague the driver.
I was embarking upon, back then, what was a door to door journey of about 30 or so hours.
To try to make the journey less cumbersome from the city we resided, he’d offered to drop me at a station close to Narita as it was on the way to an event he was attending.
The only caveat was I had to get up around 3am.
Mr Abe was a real happy go lucky spirit.
He had a pretty cool camper van of sorts, with a massive windscreen.
Despite the early hours, we were chatting non-stop. until we came around a bend.
And the conversation abruptly stopped mid-sentence.
We looked at each other smiling and let out a synchronous, WOW.
We were met by a huge sunrise that quite literally filled the sky.
It was a blindingly beautiful moment.
In awe of its majestic presence, it was unlike any other sunrise I’ve experienced.
I was reminded that there are things bigger than us.
I will never forget it.
Japan had lived up to its namesake 🌄land of the rising sun🌄
Back to the debate, he maintained sunsets were better to experience. I teased that he just wasn’t up for waking early.
What do you think… sunrise or sunset?🌞
What unforgettable experiences have you had?🤩
This experience reminded me to expect the unexpected and that there is possibility for beauty and awe to arise in any moment.
